Summary of the August 18 City Council Meeting

Parks, Trails and Open Space Bond Initiative

The Council discussed options for a Parks, Trails and Open Space Bond proposal, ultimately voting against placing a recreation bond on the November ballot. The Council held and closed a public hearing at which more than 15 people spoke. The Council expressed its intent to discuss a bond proposal in the coming year, including how to address Golf Fund needs. Read more.

The Council also: 

  • was briefed about a proposal to create a new assessment area for Downtown for economic promotion efforts. Read more. 
  • discussed the City's Capital Improvement Program − specifically in relation to Council priority projects. Read more.
  • held and closed a number of public hearings, including hearings on zoning amendments, budget amendments, grant application submissions, and Mosquito Abatement property tax changes. Action will be taken on these topics at a later date. Read more.
  • adopted a resolution canvassing, accepting and approving the results of the Municipal Primary Election held in Salt Lake City on August 11 for the offices of Mayor and Council District 4.
