Summary of the August 25 City Council Meeting

Street Light Special Assessment Areas

The Council held its first in a series of policy discussions about Street Lighting Special Assessment Areas. Discussion centered on challenges the fragmented system faces. The Council will continue to discuss this  topic, including options for dissolving the SAA system for lighting and moving to a surcharge system, at a later date. Economic Development

The Council discussed a number of facets of  economic development in the City, including incentivizing outside business to locate in Salt Lake City, challenges and opportunities. Included in the discussion was an update on EnterpriseSLC, an effort to gather data and seek input on the City's economic development efforts.

The Council also:

  • discussed Capital Improvement Projects and will further discuss this at a later date;
  • held a public hearing on a grant application;
  • adopted an ordinance amending zoning regulations for Residential Mixed Use Districts;
  • adopted Budget Amendment No. 1 for Fiscal Year 2015-16; and
  • adopted a resolution approving the proposed tax or increase in the property tax rate of the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District.
