The Council heard from four constituents in a public hearing about the Fiscal Year 2013-14 Budget and the related proposed property tax increase. A Truth-in-Taxation public hearing will be held Thursday, August 15, at 6:00 p.m. The Council will likely take action on the tax proposal that evening.

Budget items for Fiscal Year 2013-2014

The Council was briefed on a variety of items related to the Mayor’s recommended budget, including the recommended Public Utilities, Community and Economic Development, Fire, and Police budgets. The Council also accepted comment from the public about this topic during a Public Hearing in the Formal Meeting. Action will be taken at a later date. Another Public Hearing about this topic will likely be held on June 4.

New Performing Arts Center Financing

The Council discussed financing for the New Performing Arts Center project, including City and/or Redevelopment Agency bonds and tax increments. The Council will hold a public hearing on this topic on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

What Happened at the April 2, Salt Lake City Council Meeting?

Athletic Field Fees

The Council held a discussion about and adopted changes to the city’s athletic field fee regulations and concession permit fees. The changes will go into effect once the ordinance is posted (about two weeks).

  • Field Fees are now as follows:

    • Youth organizations – Non-profit – $2/hour

The Council accepted public comment from more than a dozen members of the community about proposed changes to field fees and the reservation process. The Council formed a subcommittee that will research this topic and present to the full Council at a future Work Session before taking action.
