Public Invited to Attend North Temple Development Conference
New, grand entrance to the City creates exciting new possibilities
SALT LAKE CITY – The new TRAX light-rail line connecting Salt Lake City International Airport with downtown Salt Lake City via NorthTemple is slated for completion this year and is expected to usher in a new chapter of prosperity for this grand entrance to the Capital City.
Mayor Ralph Becker invites the public, business owners, builders and developers to a free workshop and conference on March 29, 2012 from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Grand Hall at Utah Fair Park to explore the ways this new, multi-use corridor may contribute to the future development of North Temple.
Mayor Becker will join local and regional speakers in presenting on Transit Oriented Development issues and participants will also be able to take part in a moderated panel discussion focused on the future of the North Temple business district.
“The development of the North Temple corridor in conjunction with the Airport TRAX line presents a truly generational opportunity for Salt Lake City’s Westside community,” said Salt Lake City Community and Economic Development Director Frank Gray.
The new TRAX line is projected to reach a daily ridership of 14,000 passengers by 2030, providing easy transit passage from the airport to downtown, where multimodal connections can be made for bus, light-rail and Frontrunner commuter rail passage.
Scheduled conference speakers include Mayor Becker, Community and Economic Development Director Frank Gray, Utah Transit Authority Chief Planning Officer Mat Sibul, Nadine Fogarty of Strategic Economics, Tim Van Meter of Van Meter, William & Pollack, James Wood, Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Utah and others.
The event is sponsored by the Salt Lake City Community and Economic Development Department, Westside Business Alliance, Utah Transit Authority and Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency. Utah Fair Park is located on the northwest side of North Temple and 1000 West. The event is free and open to the public.
Participants can register for the event online at www.slcgov.com/ntc.
